I’ve written a new article on Christian Beliefs that the Bible Does Teach. It is a companion piece to my previous article, “Christian Beliefs” that the Bible Doesn’t Teach. This new article is meant to show that the basic beliefs…

Did Jesus Really Die to Pay the Penalty for our Sins?
One day some years ago, a fundamentalist Christian tract came through the mail slot. I almost tossed it out. But out of curiosity, I gave it a read-through. It’s a typical piece. And it pushes an old “Christian belief” that…

Good News of Great Joy
At Christmastime, Christians celebrate the greatest event that has ever taken place—the greatest event that ever will take place. It is not a victory in war. It is not a world championship in sports. It is not a triumph of…

How does Jesus Appear to Us? Can We See God Face to Face?
Last month a Swedenborg reader named Nevada Sample submitted a spiritual conundrum about how Jesus appears to human beings and to angels. Here is a shortened version of what he wrote, focusing on his questions: I have just read your…

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Quick! Guess! What was the hot topic for Christian leaders a few centuries after Jesus Christ died? Naturally, they were having a spirited discussion about the nature of God. But that doesn’t quite capture what was going on. In the…

How does God Govern Humankind? Is God Actively Involved in our Lives?
Why does God let us experience pain and suffering? Clearly all is not right in our world. The daily news brings us more death and disaster, pain and suffering than we would ever desire. How could a loving God allow…
